Graduation Requirements for Computer Science Program

The Computer Science program in the Department of Computer Science of Najran University is intended to provide broad background knowledge to its students in this area. Along with a strong theoretical component, the Computer Science program emphasis on the development of applied skills in design, implementation, and validation of computer systems. All students acquire a common background in the fundamental areas of computer science such as computer systems, organization and architecture, algorithms and data structures, principles of software design, elements of the theory of computation, operating systems and other core courses. In addition, students obtain specialized backgrounds by conducting non departmental courses like Physics and Mathematics. Along with these courses, other additional courses like Arabic, Islamic studies, give students an opportunity to expand their horizons and to prepare for multidisciplinary careers. This Bachelor degree Program is designed for students who are interested to broaden their knowledge of computer science in order to further prepare themselves for a professional career in the computing industry. To achieve the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Degree, student must fulfill both College and Department degree requirements.

College requirements:
To be a student of College of Computer Science & Information System, students should complete two semesters (15+12)= 27 credit hours from the Preparatory Year (PY). The PY is considered as part of the CS program because the courses of PY are counted in the final students' transcripts.
Department Requirements:
To be considered as a graduate from either the Department of Computer Science, student must fulfill the following departmental criteria.
·         New/current Curricula (effective since First Semester 2013/2014, nine semesters study plan)
·         Complete 9 levels of the curriculum with a total of 134 credit hours (27 credit hours from PY + 107 credit hours CS courses and general courses).

·         Submit their final year project report (final version) before deadline.
During the online registration, the systems ensures that the student is registering only the appropriate courses of his/her program and there is no violation of pre-requisite courses for the registered courses are occurred. In some exceptional and rare cases, the pre-requisite anomalies might occur after the approval of the program's and college's councils. By the end of each semester, the deanship of admission and registration issues a report containing the information of all students who are expected to graduate. Moreover, the academic advisor checks whether the student (who is registered in his/her last year) is expected to graduate and prepare a graduation report about his/her status using the student's transcript and other available features in the admission and registration system. The graduation report is then sent to the department coordinator/head for approval. Once approved, the student receives special attention and follow-up from the academic advisor and the program head. For example, a course can be offered to only one student if he/she is expected to graduate. In addition, once the student completes the program's requirements, he/she has to sign a graduation form. This form must be approved by the program head, the dean and other places in the university such as the library. After approving, this form has to be sent to the Admission and Registration Deanship for completion of the student graduation process.
